Two baby penguins born this spring, "Jinbei" and "Kibi," are set to take their first steps towards adulthood by making their debut in the swimming pool.
SUMIDA AQUARIUM This spring, four baby penguins—Jinbee, Millet, Dango, and Tofu—were born.* Around 40 days old, baby penguins begin to shed their fluffy feathers and regenerate into feathers needed for swimming, repellent water. Jinbee and Kibi, born in April, are now over 50 days old and are currently practicing getting used to the water at a small pool in Baek Yard.
At our facility, the first time a baby penguin swims in the 'Penguin Pool' where adult penguins spend their time is open, is shown to guests for the first time, which is called a 'pool debut.' 'Jinbee' will make its pool debut on Sunday, July 5, and 'Kibi' will make its pool debut on Saturday, July 11.
Ahead of the pool debut, a special pre-opening event called "Baby Penguin Public Pool Practice" will be held for four days. When making their pool debut, we practice in a corner of the penguin pool so that we can swim calmly in front of many guests. Special tickets for the tour will go on sale starting at noon on Thursday, June 25.
